The Galerie was founded by Huguette Berès in 1952 and is now run by Anisabelle Berès-Montanari, her daughter. The third generation, is represented by Florence Montanari.

From its inception, the gallery has specialised in two domaines: Japanese graphic art, housed at 35 rue de Beaune, and Modern and Contemporary art presented at 25 quai Voltaire.

Besides the Nabis artists (Vuillard, Bonnard, Denis, Roussel), the gallery displays artists from the early 20th century; cubist artists including Picasso, Braque, Gleizes, Survage, Lipchitz, Herbin; abstract artists such as Nicolas de Staël and Max Ernst and contemporary artists Antoine Poncet and Pierre Lesieur.

For several years, the gallery has organized successful and important exhibitions (François Bonvin, Maurice Denis, Au Temps des Nabis, Les Peintres-graveurs, Au Temps des Cubistes, Serge Férat and Victor Koulbak. Currently the gallery is preparing an exhibition dedicated to Alain de la Bourdonnaye and his friends.

The Galerie Berès participates in prestigious art fairs around the world : the Fine Arts la Biennale in Paris, the European Fine Art Fair in Maastricht and the Brussels Antiques & Fine Arts fair.
