On the advice of Matisse and Jeanne Bucher, Dina Vierny, Aristide Maillol’s last model, opened her gallery in 1947 at 36 rue Jacob, a former bougnat converted into a wooden showcase by Auguste Perret. Famous in Paris for exhibitions by Maillol, Rodin, Laurens and Matisse, the gallery met with growing success. Vierny organized landmark exhibitions with artists such as Picasso, Kandinsky and Kabakov after a trip to the Soviet Union in the 70s.
Since 2021, the gallery has been run by Olivier Lorquin and his sons, Pierre and Alexandre Lorquin, with a new focus on Impressionism, modern art and the post-war period. Their ambition is to present ambitious exhibitions and diversify their roster of artists, including figures such as Judit Reigl, Ra’anan Levy, Simon Hantaï and Germaine Richier.
In 2024, the gallery organized the “73-23” exhibition, contrasting Dina Vierny’s beloved Russian avant-garde with artists from the dissident Russian contemporary scene. It also presented the exhibitions “Maillol Sensuel” and “Robert Couturier. Silhouettes”, both dedicated to two of the gallery’s key artists. Recently, the gallery has taken part in numerous French and international art fairs (Brafa, Salon du Dessin, Art Paris, FAB), reinforcing its presence on the global art scene.
The year 2025 saw the opening of a second space at 53 rue de Seine, in the former Jeanne Bucher-Jaeger gallery, a major art venue in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. This new site was inaugurated with a retrospective dedicated to Judit Reigl, a major figure in lyrical abstraction. It also marks the gallery’s opening to contemporary creation, with an upcoming exhibition dedicated to the young painter Marcel∙la Barceló. This new impetus reflects the gallery’s ambition: to bring heritage and creation into dialogue in places where history continues to be written.
