Nicolas Poussin
Catalogue raisonné of painted works
Book signing by Pierre Rosenberg at the Librairie du Louvre stand at the Salon du dessin, on Thursday 26 March at 6pm.
By Pierre Rosenberg
from l’Académie française
with the collaboration of Christelle Dupuy
Pierre Rosenberg has been passionate about the work of Nicolas Poussin (1594–1665) for over fifty years. He has devoted numerous articles and exhibitions to the artist and is now publishing a catalogue raisonné of his paintings, the result of an immense amount of work.
Each of the some three hundred entries presents a detailed provenance of the work, its dating, an exhaustive list of preparatory drawings and copies, and offers a stylistic analysis of the work and its place in the evolution of the painter’s thinking.
The four richly illustrated volumes of the work aim to bring together everything we know today about the work of Nicolas Poussin, whom he considers to be the greatest French painter.
