About the author, Eric Pagliano
Eric Pagliano is Chief Heritage Curator in the Research Department of the Centre for Research and Restoration of the Museums of France (C2RMF), responsible for the graphic arts.
A specialist in the creative processes of drawing, he has organised several exhibitions at the Museums of Fine Arts in Orléans (2003–2004) and Lyon (2008), the Grenoble Museum (2010), the Fabre Museum in Montpellier (2013) and the Rennes Museum of Fine Arts (2015). He also co-curated the exhibition “Le plaisir au dessin” with the philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy at the Lyon Museum of Fine Arts in 2007–2008 and, with Sylvie Ramond, the exhibition “Drapé” (2019–2020).
A reference book
The book “L’art du dessin. Les processus de création” received the Prix du Cercle Montherland – Académie des Beaux-Arts in 2025.
It constitutes a definitive overview that examines the art of drawing in all its forms and offers an in-depth exploration of a key aspect of art history, tracing the genesis of works from sketches to final projects.
Organised thematically, from the late Middle Ages to the 20th century, the “master drawings” featured restore the medium’s exploratory and preparatory role in the creation of a work of art—a quality that has hitherto been little studied.
Over 300 sheets, some grouped into illustrative sequences using fold-out panels, underpin this captivating immersion in the laboratory of artistic creation.
Plus de 300 feuilles, certaines regroupées en séquences démonstratives à l’aide de dépliants, étayent cette captivante immersion dans le laboratoire de la création artistique.
This book was published by Citadelles & Mazenod.
