The return of anonymous drawings
at the Salon du Dessin
The Salon du Dessin is reviving an earlier tradition by dedicating a space to drawings whose authors have not yet been identified by the exhibitor presenting them.
While artists often neglected to sign studies and preparatory works for their paintings, some drawings have emerged from anonymity thanks to the discernment of specialists or documented provenance (studio archives, family collections). Others, despite their quality, have remained unattributed.
Here, pride of place is given to such works which, despite their qualities, have remained anonymous until now.
What is the principle of the Anonymous Drawings Stand?
Exhibitors who wish to do so may present one or more anonymous drawings on this stand, either in the hope of securing an attribution or simply to highlight their intrinsic quality.
In doing so, they invite a fresh perspective, that of the visitor, who may help shed light on the work and perhaps enjoy the pleasure of making a discovery. A notebook is available for visitors to record their suggested attributions.
